Got this as a present last Christmas and it has grown a good bit throughout the year. Is it ok that it is flowering this early.

Yes. They are actually Thanksgiving cactus and can start this early.

Now that I know the differences with the holiday cactuses I find a lot of thanksgiving are labeled as Christmas
