# My string of bananas hasn’t been growing for a while, and it’s mostly…

My string of bananas hasn’t been growing for a while, and it’s mostly just stems. I’m not great with succulents, but I rescued it about a year ago from Lowe’s. Many of the “bananas” has dried up and fallen but the stems are still nice and green. I decided to check on the roots and there’s not many. Is the stalk near the roots typically brown? Or has it slowly been drying out? All them individual stems looked similar to this. I feel like there should be more roots? Any tips/advice?

Don’t be afraid to start over with it. Put it back into a gritty soil and see if it rebounds. I had one with 4’ long stems that went into shock when I trimmed it back and I recovered it from a tiny, little nub of a stem!
