# HELP! I am new to raising succulents and cactus so I’m coming to you…

_Posted by Lynda on 2024-06-16_

HELP! I am new to raising succulents and cactus so I’m coming to you or for some help. 10 days ago I took these little babies from their mother and everybody was healthy and happy. In just a few days, these two little guys turned kind of a darker color and now look sort of shriveled. I watered them when they were repotted and waited to water again until they were dry but they just don’t look very good. I’ve included a picture of them when they were nestled with their mother and looking really nice.
WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?

Sometimes shock of repotting can make this occur. Another possibility is if you didn’t let the “pups” callous over for about a day. This can also be a factor. HOPE THIS HELPS!!

Thanks for your informative post! I did not let them callous over. Is there anything I can do at this point? 😊💚🪴

No, but next time try to remember. I know I forget!! 😂

Yes, give them time to adjust to their new pot. I have some that are taking forever to root down but the roots are there so I leave them alone. It’s hard not to over nurture but overnurturing will only hurt their chances to survive.

You might be overwatering a little!! Succulents need so much less water than you think, even if the soil is dry!! I definitely had to learn that the hard way!

When newly seperated, I’ve found they’re more sensitive to being toasted by sunlight, lost a couple of babies from that 😪

Thanks for your post! I know they’re full sun plants, but I’ve been wondering about these babies getting broiled in my kitchen windowsill. Because of your comment I will put them in a less sunny spot so they don’t get baked. Thanks again! Regards. 😊💚🪴
