# Has anyone dealt with an aphid infestation before, and if so how did…

Has anyone dealt with an aphid infestation before, and if so how did you get rid of them? I think the flowers my fiancé brought home for Valentine’s Day caused a full blown aphid infestation. My string of tears is covered as well as my Thai basil. I’ve been treating with Garden Safe Fungicide 3 (which contains a miticide and insecticide) but they haven’t died 😭 I’m devastated and pregnant so definitely super emotional about my plant babies 😭😂

I killed a few on the new tiny leaves of my Hoya Mathilde. I used a diluted isopropyl alcohol spray. You need to test it before spraying the entire plant.

i second sunny! i used a diluted alcohol solution with a few drops of castile soap added, it clogs them up so they can’t breathe (i was told) and the alcohol dries them out(i assume??) it’s the only thing that worked for me! and also not watering the plant, and when i did water i used the hose…yes i put the hose to my string of pearls. light setting but strong enough to get majority off. and then, as tedious as it is..picking them off one by one😒they tend to gravitate towards new growth, they were always eating up my baby pearls on my string of pearls. today she is alive and well and we battled for about a year. it’s tough but once you get the hang of the spraying, it starts to fall into your plant care routine and you’ll see the improvement, but like sunny said definitely test a spot and wait 24 hours to see if the alcohol affected the plant, you may need to dilute it more, i ended up not diluting enough and lost a few pearls at the base of the pot, but she’s bounced back. this was in 2022, and here she is now in a new home

Thank you both so much! Will definitely do that. The Great Aphid War has commenced 🧙‍♂️

I known this sounds counterintuitive… get some lady bugs! Or other aphid predators. Very low maintenance for you as well. I hope everything goes well for you and your kiddo 🥰

Ooo I love the idea of lady bugs!
