# Identification help + help help. I have had this cactus for 4 years…

Identification help + help help.

I have had this cactus for 4 years now. It was in a pot with the two sharing a pot pictured behind it. They outgrew the pot \& I separated them. The other two are thriving (don’t mind the sunburn on the succulent), both blooming/budding. But this yellowy, brown spotted buddy is ~struggling~.

Question 1: I put it in my Planta app as a Prickly Pear because that was the closest I could find at the time of the repot. But I am pretty damn sure it is not a prickly pear. Anyone know what he is?

Question 2: What does this poor sucker need? He’s my only sad cactus. He sits in the sun \& gets watered infrequently like all my other cactus. Maybe it’s the plastic pot??? — Help.

sooo idk what kind of cactus this is but i would look into propagating it and getting rid of the rotting part, i would watch a video on tik tok of someone explain how to do it

This looks like my prickly pear cactus but the bunny ears cactus is similar. I would try to remove the rotting part. There’s usually a hard part that runs through the center. I would try to remove the soft tissue around that so it doesn’t spread. Go slightly above into the healthy tissue. Let it callous before building up any soil/rocks around the base of the plant “damaged” area. I had to do something similar with my orchid cactus last year

Abi I don’t see any spots that are rotting per-se. I think he’s a happy boi too if only slightly less attractive? Hopefully he makes you some prickly pear cactus fruits

I was going to ask about the rotting, because those strange tan spots are more crusty/scaly if anything. Far from mushy. I do think I might repot him soon \& put him in clay to see if he perks up a bit. — He’s grown substantially since the repot (used to be tiny), but has also gotten “less attractive.” 😅
