Does this looks like sunburn maybe on my echeveria? Dr Planta said over watering but was only 13% sure, but I’m doubtful bc I only water when it’s 100% dry. I did recently move him into a sunnier spot which is why I’m thinking sun burn.

Also does he look root bound? He’s been growing like WOAH since I moved him, which is the other reason I’m thinking of upping his pot size

So…the brown splotch is sunburn from being moved suddenly, but the white is absolutely not sunburn. I have the exact same echeveria. White is the color it’s supposed to be, but it only develops that color when it gets enough sunlight. It’s an adaptation to help prevent sun damage. In fact, if you can give it full sun, that’s even better. The sun damaged leaves will eventually fall off and the newer, protected leaves will stay and be more colorful.

As far as being root bound, echeveria are used to surviving in tight conditions, so it actually kind of prefers to be bound.

Overall, this guy is pretty healthy. Echeveria are actually adapted to pretty tough conditions, so it can handle some abuse.

Thanks so much!!! I had an inkling it might be sun burn. I knew about the white powder being its version of sunscreen, after I accidentally wiped it off a few leaves before I knew better. His red tips are much brighter now when the sun is shining on him too.

Thanks also for the pointers on them liking being root bound. I’ll be sure to leave him alone for a little longer. Any pointers on what to look for for when it’s time to up pot?

I think especially for echeveria, when you get a lot of roots poking out of the bottom holes, that’s one indication. A couple others might just be the size of the plant and how long it’s been since it was repotted. When it really looks too big for the pot. Come to think of it, echeveria generally won’t need potted up as often as, say, an aroid.

Oh ok! Good to know!!! He’s in such a small pot I was concerned he’s getting squished. (Esp his lower leaves.) thanks again!

Yeah, no problem! Always love passing on what plants have taught me 😊
