# Hello! In the past few months I’ve gotten quite into succulents and…

_Publicado por myamyates el 2024-05-29_

Hello! In the past few months I’ve gotten quite into succulents and for my birthday a friend of mine gave me a pot with three succulents in it today. The one pictured I’m not so sure about, looks like it hasn’t gotten much light in the past causing it to etiolate. Wondering if anyone can help identify it. Almost looks like echeveria with the slight red tips but the leaves look a little too thick and rounded. Any help is appreciated!

I think it’s still an echeveria, but there are varieties of echeveria that resemble jade plants (Crassula ovata) more than the rest of the plants in their succulent family.

Here’s a link to the jade it might be if it isn’t really an echeveria, but other than this specific jade, jades tend to have thicker, rounded leaves and a different texture than echeveria. If it has small “pores” and doesn’t feel smooth like an echeveria, it’s a jade. If it’s smooth with no “pores”, and as light green as it looks in the photo, it’s most likely an echeveria. I’d say given the “wingspan” the leaves have, it’s too long in the leaves to be a jade. I’m 99% it’s an echeveria.

No problem. Succulents are great! Highly suggest adding perlite to it and bottom watering it if you’re new to succulents and worried about overwatering it.

Here’s a link to the echeveria it could be. Both are commonly planted in variety succulent planters at box stores.

Just make sure to rotate the planter from time to time to make sure all the plants in it are getting enough light. The red tips tells you it’s getting enough sun if the tips started turning red, so keep that one closest to the window. They like full sun. And DON’T wipe the “film” off them. That’s the plant’s form of “sunscreen”, and keeps it from burning, and DOES NOT COME BACK once wiped off.
