So I was looking at my aloe plant and noticed that it is starting to grey, i’m thinking it might be starting to root rot but does anybody have any other tips or suggestions?

It could be sun stress.  
How much direct Sun is it getting? Some aloes prefer partial light instead of a lot of direct Sun.  
Also now that temps are cooling and through the winter you can cut back on watering.

true, it gets direct sun every day probably 5-7 hours a day

This is my aloe, it sits in a shaded corner of my porch. It started off like yours about 7 years ago. And survived a move from Utah to Arizona this year
