Succulent question for all you from the Midwest…

I’m from MN \& been reading different succulent blogs. People mention placing indoor succulents outside in the summer. Has anyone done this?
I’m a little scared to do this because of bringing bugs back into the house in the fall when it becomes too cold outside.
I’m tempted to leave well enough alone and keep my plants indoors near windows year round.
Thanks for your thoughts \& perspectives! ☺️

I’m in Georgia and as soon as it stays above 45° at night I bring all mine outside until fall. I bring them back in around the same temp. They FLOURISH outside. I am shocked how big they get and how fast they grow!

BTW, I’ve only lost 2 out of maybe 70 to bugs, ever.

My 140 plants live on my patio most of the year. The grow lights and humidifier can’t compete with the extra warmth, higher humidity and rain water they get outside. Insecticidal soap and MosquitoBits clears up the insects.

Thanks Sunny! We definitely have humidity during our MN summer’s so they really should thrive.
I’ll add the insecticidal soap \& MosquitoBits to my shopping list so I’m well prepared.

I should that Dawn dishwashing liquid can be used to make an insecticidal soap. The soapy dish water forms a film that suffocates pests without harmful chemicals.

Hi! I’m also from the Midwest (Wisconsin) and these are my thoughts. I have left some succulents on a screened in porch before (not all the way outside) and even then they still had a gnat issue when they came back inside. However, the gnat issue cleared up quickly, and they were very happy outside and grew a lot. So I think your plants would be very happy outside, just be prepared to possibly have to deal with bugs. Hope this helps!

Thanks for weighing in. I think I will bring some outside and see how they do! I’ve been propagating some so what better way to experiment with some!!
