Has anyone successfully grown a split rock plant here? If so, can you share your watering schedule and do you know if the old dried up leaves need to be removed?

So these guys aren’t great to be “on a schedule”, you should water when they are showing you signs they are thirsty. This can range from a few weeks to months apart, which is why I say not really a schedule.

My 3 must haves before I’ll water:
1\. Slightly squishy when I gently squeeze it.
2\. Starting to show some wrinkling on top.
3\. Starting to sink into the soil.

Unless all 3 of those are present I don’t even think about watering. I also never water when flowering or splitting.

I wouldn’t worry about the old leaves, they’ll separate from the plant when it’s done with them.

That one is a stunner!

Thank you so much GreenLeaf! I appreciate your help and I’ll be taking your advice. :) I am terrified of accidentally killing it since it sounds like they can be easily overwatered.

I have killed my fair share of these, and it absolutely can happen easily. But if you get that feeling, “man, I haven’t watered that one in weeks, it MUST need a little drink”. Unless its giving you signs, do not give into that urge lol

I am growing some from seed and they are only about four months old, so I can’t quite say “successfully” yet, but they’re still alive. 😅
I’ve learned a lot from some Lithop aficionados on YouTube. But yes, this one is GORGEOUS!

i killed my fair share in the beginning from over watering but i just could NOT stop trying because i love them! i have about five right now that are all going strong and two are growing in a second… set of leaves? idk what the terminology is but my best tip is to do your best to forget about it and water it when the soil is bone dry. mine sit in my windowsill and they’re happy! but i’m no expert so if i’m wrong about anything please correct me.
