So I’m fairly new to cacti, and I’m wondering what these green spiky things are. Are they how the spikes start out? Also, what conditions do cacti need to flower?

Here’s a picture of mine this summer! I can’t say much because I’m no expert, but I’ve grown mine from a sprout and those little green things grow and are not needles but just part of the plant itself! Eves needle cactus is what it’s called.

Thanks! Mine’s an Eve’s Needle too, and the reason I was wondering whether the green shoots become needles is because he only has the green shoots at the top where there aren’t any needles at all. 💚

Mine grows the same way too! Not many needles at top, just lots of green tips. They sometimes turn brown and die off too.
