# Benny was doing great after I rescued him. But then he got fungus…

_Opslået af Freedomskai den 2023-11-14_

Benny was doing great after I rescued him. But then he got fungus gnats and I think I waited too long to treat them (I had some personal stuff going on atm) and now half of him is mushy and deflated. Is he doomed at this point or can I still save him?? 😩😩

Sidenote since getting into plants it seems every succulent/cactus I get seems to not like me. I haven’t had great luck with them surprisingly, I do much better with foliage plants it seems! What kind of backwards logic is that?? 🤪🥲

based on everything you just told me, you’re overwatering. that’s why you had fungus gnats, that’s why your cactus is rotting, and that’s why your foliage plants thrive. cactus CANNOT stand overwatering, it’s better to underwater that to overwater. if it’s a small cactus, planta may tell you to water it more than needed. you can always save a dry cactus, not so much for a wet one. check the soil with a chopstick and if the soil isn’t bone dry, don’t water it. i water mine once every two or three months, and i usually bottom water and top water to make sure the soil is fully saturated. one THOROUGH watering every 1-3 months depending on the size of the plant should be all that you need. good luck!!

Oh wow this makes sense, thank you so much!! I’ll try to ignore my cacti/succulents and will definitely use a chopstick from now on!
