I was surprised to see new blooms appear. I am not sure what kind of cactus this is. Any ideas?

It’s in the Gymnocalycium family, I believe. Possibly Gymnocalycium pflanzii based on the shape of the buds.

Or Gymnocalycium quehlianum. Man, 80% of Gymnocalycium are identical.

I have spent so much time trying to figure it out.  
So it wouldn’t be in the Mammaillaria family?
