# So this plant has been through some tough times at my hands; I’ve…

So this plant has been through some tough times at my hands; I’ve basically killed off the root system because of inconsistent watering and this plant being in cactus soil and possible to large a pot. I’ve not had much luck without it ever to look less wilted than it does. Any ideas on how to make it happier would be much appreciated. Currently I mist the top of the soil and the leaves about twice a week until the colour changing water meter changes colour to prevent a root rot situation

I wouldn’t mist the leaves because most succulents and cacti don’t like increased humidity

spraying the soil that often is actually very likely to cause rot as it keeps the soil moist consistently. the best approach for cacti is to thoroughly saturate the soil incredibly infrequently— once the soil has totally dried, and even longer for some species that prefer drought

Would this also be true for an epiphytic jungle cactus? I’m definitely doing what you’re saying with my regular cactuses but I’ve heard these ones like to be wetter

i follow the same method for jungle cacti, they are usually watered sooner than my other succulents though. as soon as i notice the soil is completely dry

I might use some seaweed solution in the water to help the roots grow stronger.
