# My Zebra Haworthia Plant is in bad shape. The plant is turning brown…

_Posted by Emily on 2023-08-22_

My Zebra Haworthia Plant is in bad shape. The plant is turning brown and black instead of a bright green. The leaves are starting to die and shrivel up. I’ve been watering it once every 1-2 weeks. The plant always has sunlight. What do I do?

I have one that did that to me. It was literally completely ignored for months and totally green and happy and growing. I wanted to see it more so I transplanted it, watered it more frequently (like your schedule) and it turned black. My best guess is they prefer a lot less water than you or the app thinks. Might be too late, but don’t give up. Just leave it alone for a while.

It sounds like root to me. I would un-pot, remove roten roots and roten leaves. And leave bare rooted for a couple of days. Then repot in a very well draining mix, that is dry. Do not water in a while, and then space out watering to 1 or 2 times a month, depending on how hot the weather is. I water every 16 day and have 100 + degree weather 🫠

They are a low light plant…so no grow light or keeping it in or around the windows…otherwise it will never get better no matter what you do
