# My Zz Raven. I’ve had him for about 3 weeks and have not watered him…

My Zz Raven. I’ve had him for about 3 weeks and have not watered him yet. Meter still reads a bit damp. I’ve noticed the leaves ( not the new growth) are not as black as they were.. is it a lighting issue?

Hey Christine! I haven’t acquired a ZZ Raven yet, but my experience with other Zamioculcas varieties (and a lot of other plant leaf varieties) leads me to believe the lighter coloured new leaves are pretty standard as they develop. But if you’re seeing lighter colouration in \*mature\* fronds, it’s almost definitely a light issue. The picture might be misleading but it seems like it’s currently in a pretty bright spot…zz’s can tolerate and even thrive in low light. Moving it to a shadier spot should help!

My raven looks on the greener side some days and blacker other days (mature growth). I think it just reflects light differently depending on time of day and where the natural light is hitting it from 🤷‍♀️
