# Hey!! I have been recently wanting to get a cactus of some sort…

Hey!! I have been recently wanting to get a cactus of some sort however I have many animals including cats and dogs. Does anybody know any types of cacti that are okay to be around them? Also, where is a good place to get them? I might try lowes’ garden area but I don’t know. Comment your suggestions please! I need them ASAP.

Gymnocalciums! Non toxic and short and stubby so they don’t draw so much attention. And they produce beautiful flowers!

It’s so beautiful!!! Seems like my cats would be attracted to it! Lol!

They’re only open for a couple hours a day for maybe 3-5 days. And they close up at night. I have a cat too and he’s definitely given all my plants the obligatory sniff tax but hes left them alone. I know all cats are different though but hey it’s still nontoxic!

Do the flowers last long?

Could be 3 days to a week of full flower but the flower is only open for a couple hours each day. And then they wither and drop off. But depending on how you care for them you could have multiple flowers on a single cactus.

Try a jungle cactus! The fishbone cactus is cool. Oh and a star cactus (astrophytum) :)
