Here is today’s “Seriously?” statement \& question:

Seriously?
They needed a different name for something similar.
Which do you think the Echeveria in the image is?

Echeveria Black Prince
\- or -
Echeveria Dark Moon

And if it’s too close to call then I have found a new type…

Echeveria Dark Jamirault 🤪😎

I’m going to vote B: dark moon, only because the way the leaves point is out, rather than up. Although could change as it gets older so who knows.

Ha ha ha. Yeah. I hear you and agree!
I’m sure they will eventually improve aspects like that. I’m sure they’ve got it on there list. Lol.

Try this… go to your plant.
Hit the gear button top right corner.
Scroll down to plant type, select a new plant.
Does doing that change your history?

You know what, I just noticed that also as I was moving plants from Window to window. I’m going to try it snd then as usual ask how many people like their eggs scrambled. Cause i’ll have cracked a dozen on my face. 🥚🍳

And since you are so helpful..i have a question anout the “Near AC?” field option.

Without any input to what “Near AC?” means I presumed it means…”Near an AC vent that is blowing on the plant?” in reality, I believe near a sea could or should mean “Is there a strong cool air blowing in the room where this plant is located?”

And two of my bedrooms, I have ceiling fans that are maybe bigger than the room needs. In the summertime they are on 24 seven. I believe that cool air push in the room is no different than literally putting a plant near an AC Vent.

My rooms with the ceiling fans the plants in those rooms dry up quicker than plants that don’t have a ceiling fans.

Have you found the same to be true and do you therefore use “Near AC? Yes.”?

You can change the type of plant in the plant setting if you realised that you chose the wrong type. You won’t lose anything, all the plant history, details, pics and so on will stay. I did it many times.

Yes your presumption is how I interpreted the a/c thing too.
And funny you should bring this up, as I was just thinking I outta post in the Planta help group to ask them to clarify and adjust this.
There are almost 2 different factors that effect the watering needs and health of the plant.
1\) if a plant is in direct draft line of heat or a/c, it could get heat stress or cold stress (health)
2\) since the algorithm is based on current outside temperatures, but my plants are 1/2 inside, 1/2 outside, and depending on where in my house it is, the temperature can vary, and sometimes varies even more when using a/c. The whole house will be colder in general, even if no draft air is directly hitting plants. So watering frequency would decrease if one has central air (i don’t but have a few window units). They should just ask what the average temp in that room is during warm months and cold months, in day and at night, to get a more accurate schedule. Right? 🤷🏻‍♀️

I guess to answer your question more directly, I actually personally haven’t used the “near a/c” button with any of my plants as of yet, because i only use my a/c window units a few weeks out of the year, each summer when it gets to triple digits outside. My apt is like a cave, so it stays 10-15 degrees cooler in my apt than whatever outside temps are. So i don’t want to have all my plants to read in a/c all summer, when its only for short bursts. Kind of impossible to pick one or the other for me. So i basically just customize watering schedule for 2/3 of my plants and am constantly adjusting it.
I do however use a fan in our livingroom, so that def would be nice to factor in.

Hi there,

My apologies for the tardy reply.

So you haven’t used the Near AC feature and you do have a room fan.

South Philadelphia brick row homes, most all over 125 years old like mine, become interesting pizza ovens and cool dark caves. Last year one of my roommates said to me, because he’s an architect…

Half of Philadelphia’s will say…

OMG it’s so hot in this (house or 2nd floor or room)!

…during the summer season. According to an Architect friend of mine the complaint is cause by the home owners, or previous home owners, who replaced windows in the house with smaller more affordable windows, or bricked up windows or entrance ways completely. My friend says the Architects who designed the houses with large windows and doors did so for a reason, air flow, and homeowners messed up the airflow.

My second floor has 9 foot ceilings and it gets naturally hotter because heat rises, and I have a flat roof top, and the previous owners put in smaller windows.

In the front bed room, faces West, I have a ceiling fan and in the back bed room facing east a ceiling fan there too. When the fans are on and you are sleeping in bed, or typing up a Planta post, then you definitely feel cold from the windy fan. If i can feel it drying sweat off me then my plants can feel it too. And they do, d r y is what the soil looks like constantly.

Photo attached demonstrates how I need to get a life. smh 🤦‍♂️

Interesting conundrum! Yeah i can see the complexity of everyone’s different home environments \& conditions. Near impossible to interpret for an algorithm app. I personally would not interpret a fan as the same as a/c since the temperature is vastly different, but i also just end up customizing everything anyway. 😜

Good evening,

Very interesting. I know that I first noticed the ceiling fans drying out the plant and soil in my back bedroom first. Huge ceiling fan, tiny room.

Anywho. I may. be one of those plant morons. Why do I say that?

I think Ive killed a snake plant.
