What’s your go-to succulent/chunky soil mix??

Do you doctor up a bag of something or go totally from scratch? I’ve heard some succulents can stick with completely inorganic material?

Me too. Except for cuttings. Those go in regular soil, but after that it’s Goldbond all the way. And slow release fertilizer.

I like to start with premixed cactus soil and add 25% to 50% perlite. If the plant in question doesn’t really care about organic matter or wants something more alkaline, I’ll mix in some crushed granite (I’m looking at you mesembs).

Where do you guys get your gold bond cactus soil? I can’t seem to find it anywhere!

I use a large bag of Black Gold Succulent mix and I add a 2 lb bag of Bonsai Jack and a cup of mosquito bits. I find the Black Gold usually has fungus gnats eggs/larvae in it.
