# Hi there! New-ish plant mom here! I got this echeveria back in August…

Hi there! New-ish plant mom here! I got this echeveria back in August and when I did, it was really full and dark in colour. Then I went on vacation and my friend overwatered it terribly. A lot of the leaves fell off and I had to repot it because the soil was so wet. It’s now growing back and looks a lot better, but I have a few questions:

1\. I’ve done some reading and I think I need a more shallow pot that is about 2 inches wider than the plant leaves. Is this right?

2\. As you can see there’s a thick stem where the leaves used to grow out of below the leaves that currently exist. If I repot this, how much of that stem do I put below the soil? do I leave it as high as it is now?

3\. There’s a little growth on the side that looks like a “pup” of “offshoot” can I clip this off and plant for propagation?

Thanks in advance plant gurus!! ♥️🌱🪴

The size of the pot depends on root growth. If your plant has a large amount of roots then you need to repot into a pot two inches bigger. If it only has shallow roots I would think a shallow pot is fine just make sure you can cover the entirety of the root system with two inches at most on all sides.

I’m not so sure but I’ve read you can put half of the stem into the soil when repotting (as long as the leaves don’t touch the soil too much).

I had one of these pups grow on my succulent. Mine was attached to a half on leaf and it eventually fell off. Yours looks big enough to pop off and propagate but if you want it to be a bit bigger before you do so that’s fine. It should grow roots a few weeks after you pull it.

Hope your friend gets better!!
