# Allow me to introduce you all to my newest indoor plant babies! 😂…

Allow me to introduce you all to my newest indoor plant babies! 😂 I’m new to indoor gardening AND in a new home where I’m unfamiliar with the light conditions. Frustratingly, my home only has two light options: second story southwest windows with bright, sometimes direct light in the afternoon and northeast windows lightly filtered to through trees. Please, bless my black thumb with your wisdom.

🍋lemon mint (Monarda citriodora): In potting mix with perlite, facing part sun/part shade (sometimes full sun) on southwest windowsill.

🪻lavender hidcote blue (lavandula angustifolia): In potting/perlite/sand mix, facing part sun/part shade (sometimes full sun) on southwest windowsill.

🐍rattlesnake plant (calathea insignus): In tropical soil, facing indirect sun two feet in a desk from southwest window, will be drinking bottled water like the diva I’ve heard he is.

Just a heads up. Calatheas need distilled water. Drinking water is not distilled water. Calatheas don’t like some minerals especially lime.

Ah, did not realize bottled and distilled is not the same! Do you boil your water to distill it or have a recommendation? Thanks, Phil!

You can buy distilled water. Usually alongside the drinking water. Distilled water is pure with no minerals or chemicals. I believe many people use a pitcher or faucet filter. I’ve not tried either because I have a distilled system for the house.

Is filtered water from home good? I have a lavender plant seedling, and its thriving. Just want to make sure it's getting the best water possible.
