# HELP PLEASE I do not know what this plant is. It’s been in my…

HELP PLEASE I do not know what this plant is. It’s been in my collection for a year or two. It looked like a good option and so I got it, when I got it, it sat in my room ( north facing window in the basement) it had a plant light and I watered it according to the schedule, and sometimes when it was dry I’d water it. I researched about the plant and was told it’s a corn plant, it says it’s supposed to get big and tall but it hasn’t grown more then an inch for two years, I’ve given it fertilizer repotted when its roots got root bound, and switched it to a south facing window, it’s now in a south-east facing window, but the sun hits it for the majority of the day until the trees filter the sun out. I’ve gone off the care types of planta, and other websites. I don’t know what to do. Its leaves slowly turn brown at the bottom or dry and fall off, it’s grown an inch since I got it, no flowering, not a lot of new growth, what plant is this? How to I help it grow to its potential? Any and all types are welcome

The compact Janet Craig stays a bit smaller than the “Janet Craig”

They are naturally a pretty slow growing plant. They also can grow into a tree shape so it’s normal for them to lose Lower leaves.

Bright filtered light is great, too much direct sun can scorch the leaves. Well draining soil with drainage in the pot, let the soil dry out at least 50% between waterings. You can fertilize monthly during the warm months.

They can also be sensitive to tap water!

So it is the Janet plant? I normally let it dry out, it doesn’t get direct sunlight it’s mixed in will all my other plants near that window so it’s been good. I just was worried it wasn’t going to grow

It’s draecana “Janet Craig compacta” or the dwarf version. I think you’re doing everything right! Maybe fertilize heavier in the future?

Okay, what type of fertilizer is good for her?

I just use a 10-10-10 for all my houseplants including my dracaena. I like the espoma brand a lot.
