Concerned plant mom. Is it normal for the leaves of a pitcher to dry out too?

Are you making sure to mist and water it with either rainwater, distilled water or reverse osmosis water? Also are you putting bugs in its pitchers as those are fertilizer for it and not using normal fertilizer which will kill it? Also are you keeping the soil moist because letting it dry out will make the plant start dying? Also are you giving it a lot of direct sunlight and I mean drown it in full direct sunlight? Another thing pitcher plants are bog plants so pour the water in pot that it’s pot is in to bottom water it, because top watering can cause rot of the leaves and pitchers due too much water on the plant itself and bottom watering raises the humidity around the plant and waters it with out causing it to rot so it is the better method, because it mimics it’s boggy habitat that way?

Omg this was amazing! Thank you so much for the questions and breakdown!

Pitcher plants are not bog plants and should not sit in water; that will cause root rot). I have mine in just sphagnum moss and water from the top but not on the leaves (only rainwater, distilled or reverse osmosis because minerals will hurt it). I mist it every morning and have it directly under my grow light because it needs a lot of direct light. You will need to feed but I’d wait until it gets a bit healthier. Also, clip off the dead leaves with clean scissors/snips. Hope this helps. Here’s a pic of mine, who recently had a baby!

Do you own a nepenthes?

You and her are innocent due to only certain species that live in trees and the majority of pitcher plants are ground dwelling bog plants(as you can observe in a natgoegraphic documentary) like Venus fly trap.

The pitcher plants you’re talking about that are bog plants are sarracenia, a different genus than nepenthes which aren’t bog plants.

I just went through the same thing with all mine too. I figured it was due to the change of seasons.

OMG! I agree that these are Not bog plants! They are epiphytes that grow on trees in the jungle. Just like orchids do.
