_Publié par Grandma2aDancer le 2025-05-13_

Are these flowers on these 2 Aglaonemas? If so, how long for them to bloom? The top is a plant we’ve had and I believe the ?flower has been there a month or so and we just received the lower one. Let bloom or snip if they are flowers?
Thanks for any information🌱

Hi there, they aren’t flowers per se but are called inflorescences. No point keeping them on the plant if you’re not going to pollinate

That’s what I thought I should do if it was an inflorescence. I’d never seen one and for some reason when I googled, there were no photos🤷‍♀️. I’d snip it so the plant doesn’t use all its energy in blooming and can get back to the business of growing foliage, right?

And thank you for your answer🌱

You’re absolutely right. If you have several different aglaonema species, you can play with hybridising them using the pollen :) I like to use a brush to scrape the pollen into an piece of foil and keep it in the freezer

Oh my!!! I’d never considered that was something I could try to do! I have 3 different ones right now. I’d have more, but it seems their price has jumped significantly since I first got them. I had 3 and one died in the care of my daughter (granddaughter), in the dungeon of a 16 year olds room and then suggesting she put it in the north facing window which got much more light than I thought it would and her leaving it there for a week or so! Anyway, if it’s not difficult maybe I’ll get back to 3😊. Thanks again, I’m off to the internet to learn how to do this🌱🌱🌱

Good luck! info on aglaonemas was tricky to find but if you look up monsteras and other aroids, it works the same way. I find that the female inflos come up first (which don’t have pollen), then the male so you can collect pollen from those. I haven’t done the pollination yet myself, just playing with collecting the pollen for now :) Beat of luck and please post again with any updates! 🌿🌿
