# To mist or not to mist. Now that is the question. I stopped misting…

To mist or not to mist. Now that is the question.

I stopped misting my plants about a month ago when I read that misting is just a temporary/momentary moisture that doesn’t really do anything to help plants. I also read that it helps to create mold and fungus on the plants.

I must admit though, I feel a bit weird to keep pressing “skip all” when it’s misting day for plants in this app. I assume that Planta knows more and better than I do on basic plant care; I’m just a beginner. Therefore, they have to recommend it for some reason, right?

So, now I’m turning to the community that has an insane amount of knowledge (seriously - y’all are fantastic). Please help guide me - do I mist or nah?

When I first got on this app, the intro acknowledged that there was a debate about whether or not misting was necessary. Some people say that it clears the leaves so that they can better absorb sunlight to use in photosynthesis. I’m relatively new to caring for plants. I’ve decided that as long as I have the time and motivation, I’m going to stick with it if there’s even a little chance it will help.

I stopped misting a couple of months ago after reading similar info, and my plants all seem plenty happy! Sometimes I think the planta app just wants to keep us busy 😂

I stopped misting maybe a year or so ago. I haven’t been able to see any difference since I stopped. I also group most of my plants together. And grouping adds humidity.

I stopped misting about a year ago as well, but I use humidifiers as my misters. For vanity reasons, I keep my house a bit more humid and it works well for the plants as well. I have three humidifiers in three rooms where basically all the plants are (two being my bedroom and office). I also have hygrometers in these sites. If it rained for two days and the humidity in the room is 55-60%, I mark as misted even though the humidifiers aren’t on. Hope this helps.

agreed with most above. no need to mist a plant! just imagine misting yourself: it doesn’t last much longer than a few minutes. same for plants. a humidifier or diffuser work much better to increase humidity.

I stopped misting, though I don’t think it’s harmful at all. We have a main humidifier in the living room, and I put essential oil diffusers (without water only) next to other plant clusters. They love it!

Also, for the settings under each plant, in the “care” section, you can turn off the misting reminders. 😉

THIS!! Yes, turn it off.

Also feel free to disregard watering schedules from Planta. They’re mostly reminders but you ultimately just want to water by feeling the soil.

I stopped misting about a month ago and bought a humidifier instead (check out Amazon - I got a great deal on a Levoit). I agree with PlantyAnn - don’t mist. 😊🪴✨
