I am so excited, This is my first Hoya! I recently bought a Hoya Krohniana super silver. I would appreciate any tips on how to grow this beautiful plant.

Hoyas are my fav! The trick is to not over water and to leave the roots alone! Hoyas will let you know when they are thirsty. Look at the leaves and feel the pot. If the leaves look a little wrinkly and if the pot is light, I water them. I give them a big drink and let them drain.

All of my Hoyas sit in west windows. They want a lot of light. I’ve been told no direct sun, but mine get blasted with afternoon sun and are very happy. I just make sure I turn them once a week.

Soil mix, nothing special. I use potting mix with added perlite. They like to be snug in their pots so I do not repot until they are very root bound. Their roots are really delicate too so I prefer not to mess with them.

Good luck!

Forgot one thing…. No matter what you do, you will most likely end up battling mealy bugs at some point. This is almost unavoidable since they love Hoyas. There are systematic granules that you can add to the soil to help combat them. Also, rubbing alcohol does a good job killing them too. I’ve give them a good rinse each time I water them.

Do you happen to know a good brand I can use for the granules just in case I get mealy bugs?

The brand I used is called bonide systematic granules. Add them to the soil about every 8 weeks, iirc.
