are self-watering pots actually good for plants/do they work…I put water in the section off area of the pot (where the water is supposed to go) in the morning and by 3pm all of it was basically gone(into the plant/dirt)… so is my plant thirsty or is it being overwatered?

I would check if the soil is damp all the way up the soil, or just toward the bottom of the pot. If it’s all the way up it doesn’t need any more water. Also good to water from the top every now and then to flush out salts etc.
