# Hello all! I’m still relatively new to plants, but was put into…

Hello all! I’m still relatively new to plants, but was put into contact with someone in my community through a coworker. She was getting rid of some mature plants as the care for them had gotten too intensive and wanted them to go to a home that would care for them. I believe the species as epiphyllum oxypetallum (queen of the night) and schlumbergera bridgesii (christmas cactus). Any advice for these species or the particular plants would be helpful. The Christmas Cactus has small dots on some of the leaves and the Queen of the Night has some larger brown patches. I know at least one of them was kept outside underneath a patio. Thank you in advance for any advice!

The Queen of the Night looks like it got sunburnt. The dry edges looks like inconsistent watering. It dried out too much at one point. Most of the leaves look good.

This is a low maintenance plant. I recommend trimming the extra long branches to balance the shape. The trimmings can be cut into 3” or 4” pieces to propagate. Clearly mark the top and bottom of the cuttings. Lay it flat on the soil with aerial roots side down if you can’t tell which end to plant.

Let the cuttings callous at the cut ends for a day. Propagate in water or in well draining soil. Don’t repot to often. They are epiphytes with small root balls. Let the soil dry out before watering. Fertilize once a month in the warmer months. 🍀🪴

How would you suggest propagating? The original owner had placed the rock in the pot to keep it from tipping over, but I would love to trim some back

I have a couple of bricks in alarge pot and put my plant in a pot on top of the bricks to keep it upright. 😂

Propagate in water or soil. I prefer water propagation because it’s easy to see the root growth. Start adding diluted liquid fertilizer and SuperThrive plant vitamins when the roots appear. Change the water once a week or when it gets cloudy.

The pic shows the oldest one of my two largest plants. There are several plants in that pot. The branches are 5ft tall. The root system is small. So they thrive without getting root bound. I stop watering for two weeks to force it to bloom. But, it blooms several times a year on its own unlike the myths online that state it only blooms once a years.
