# I have a question about ceiling fans. When you set up a plant it asks…

_Gepostet von Grandma2aDancer am 2025-05-16_

I have a question about ceiling fans. When you set up a plant it asks about being near vents, etc. I’ve read about not putting by drafty doorways, etc, also. Also, I’ve read about plants having good air flow and cabinets having fans in them. I’ve left the ceiling fans off in the dining room (that has several plants) \& the plants there seem to take longer to dry out. I’ve left one off in bathroom, thinking that would keep the humidity level higher.
Should they remain off or on to increase air flow? I don’t have trouble staying on top of the watering and it wouldn’t be with increased frequency either, so that isn’t a factor that needs to be considered. I’m concerned over summer the house will be too muggy and hot for the human \& dog inhabitants with fans off this summer (really needed them last summer).
Thanks for any advice. Beth

I think the warning about draughts is more to do with cold air hitting the plant than general air movement? I would keep the fans on if you need them!

Thank you! I felt the info I had sounded rather conflicted, especially when fans are used in cabinets with grow lights🤷‍♀️
Thanks again

Yes, use the fans as you need or if you want to just keep them on low for air circulation that would be fine too. Unless you have a too high humidity problem in your home I don't think your circulation will be a huge issue. Especially if there are not a lot of plants all crowded together.

I think plants love air circulation, but they don’t like cold or hot drafts when you open your window/door. I guess the problem is with sudden temperature and humidity changes

Thank you. I live in Florida so won’t be getting any cold drafts (AC vent is not where plants are), but it does get muggy if fans aren’t running (does even with them running, but not as miserable). Good to see your comment! Thanks again 🪴

Sounds like what it is here now-since I turned the fans on! Thanks for your input 🪴

The draft either refers to a cold draft. Or something so significant that it will make the pot dry out quicker. I have either ceiling or stand fans in most rooms. Air circulation is great for plants. Just keep an eye on your watering amount, so they aren't drying out to quickly

Thank you very much! I just wasn’t sure, although it was logical to me that if in humid conditions without air flow, your risk of mold would greatly increase. That’s what happens to showers and other damp places that don’t get airflow here in Southwest Fl. I also live within half to a mile of the Gulf of Mexico, increasing humidity. Thanks again.

Oh yea, im in PNW, super humid here, so circulation is a must

I keep my ceiling fans running 365 days a year and just change the direction of airflow when it gets cold. I have 200+ plants inside in winter and they appreciate the airflow. I’m zone 9, south Texas with average humidity above 70%. I can’t breathe without my ceiling fan running at the highest speed. My plants love it. They might dry out faster with the fans running. I just have to water more.

Good to know! Thanks 🪴

I use fans because my orchid cactus got black mold on its leaves during the winter before the fans with no circulating air so I keep the air circulating everywhere , I had the same question , and everyone told me that it basically had to do with like cold air coming from under a doorway

Thank you-glad. Someone else had the same question🌱 🪴
