# Hi what would be some of the best plants for a self watering pot…

_Publicado por Mouse el 2024-11-20_

Hi what would be some of the best plants for a self watering pot please? I killed my last plant as the soil was constantly soaked. Not sure if I'm using the pot wrong as I'm sure the soil shouldn't always be wet :/ thanks guys

In my humble opinion, self watering pots are a death wish for plants, even the plants that require the highest amount of moisture hate having wet feet all the time and need to dry out at some stage. 😬

The wicked should be near the bottom of the soil. I personally don't use them, even with pon or leca.... cuz I'm a weirdo 😆 🤣 i know lots of people that use them. They usually use pon or leca with them though. Pothos, spider plants, bog plants are a few i know love water.

Pothos are still probably a no go, they have thick chunky roots which are more susceptible to root rot from too much water accumulation. Usually the smaller and spindle-like the roots are the more they need water, like alocasias and such

??? I have pothos in just water...... and my big emerald has like a ditch of water it's pot sits in almost constantly

Well if you propped it and kept it in water then it probably adapted to a water environment. But if you keep a pot of pothos in peat moss soil soaked in water all the time, that’s gonna induce root rot no matter what, just a matter of time. Since there’s no aeration with the dense wet soil basically suffocating the roots.

I don't plant in peat. It the normal well draining soil i mix for tropicals, with a water tray underneath i fill up when its empty. Been that way for 6yrs now, it was a mature plant in a 10" pot when i got it(in potting soil)
