I was wondering if anyone has painted terracotta pots before and what type of paint you used? i still need it to absorb the water and everything that it does to help with the succulents that i have in them. i just want to paint them to spruce them up and to make them not look as dirty.

You can use acrylic paint for like the dollar store, and then spray it with a water proof sealant

I've never done this and I don't know if there would be any problems but I would be tempted to seal the outside of the pot first and then painted however you like and then seal it again. Remember this will negate the breathability of your pot if that is of any importance to your plant.

There's some special paints that you can use, but something smooth would work best. Just put on a sealant. Enjoy!

As KJM said, they will no longer function like terracotta. If you seal it, they are no longer leaching out moisture. It would function like a ceramic pot. Maybe you could just paint a few designs on the pot and not cover the entire surface. Another alternative is using an even grittier soil mix, such as Jacks Gritty Mix.
