# Anyone have advice/experience on keeping small ferns alive indoors in…

_Publicado por Krissi el 2024-12-03_

Anyone have advice/experience on keeping small ferns alive indoors in CO? I struggle to keep ANY alive for long....button, autumn, birds nest, Boston, crocodile..etc. I do my best to follow tasks, keep soil damp, mist them, they have drainage...but they all seem to dry up bit by bit until there's nothing left. Is it just too dry here? Do I need to keep them in greenhouses? Not ready to give up on trying but I need help. Also struggling with keeping a medium palm in a corner of a dining room by a window \& beardie terrarium. TIA!

It's SO dry there. I have this knowledge only from visiting.. but i ended up literally smothered in lotion 😆 🤣 I would try a greenhouse or some kinda cloche

If you have a gauge I try to keep humidity between 50-60% especially for ferns

50-60 is pretty low for most ferns, and tropicals. That's like regular house humidity. Especially Boston prefer at least 75-85%.

I’d have mold growing in my house if I kept the humidity that high lol

Which is why mine are in the greenhouse or Terry 😆 🤣 the tiger Boston came browning, and the houses 58% humidity wasn't cutting it. Popped it into the greenhouse and a few weeks later it's got new growth.

Oh, you have a greenhouse.. nice 👍

Yes, cuz I have humid loving plants. Dont want to mist all day And don't choose to live in a sauna to meet their needs lol.

As a native, I’ve noticed that if you keep them in a bathroom where you have hot showers that helps, so it’s not always humid but for about 20min-1hour it stays humid for your fern! If not I agree with the greenhouse idea.

I wish my bathroom had windows so I could have some plants in there. 😔 Hopefully when we move I can make that happen.🤞🏼

If you want to go full crazy plant lady you can give it a personal grow light
