Hey guys so I have a bit of a plant problem and I need a little advice. So I have a lemon tree and it is doing really well but just recently I noticed that some white spots have started to showing up on the leaves. I thought that it would maybe go away in a day or something so I just left it alone. But it has been almost three days and it still hasn’t gone away. I was just wondering if anyone knew what is going on. Am I over watering it?

That looks like powdery mildew, which is a fungal infection. Every citrus tree I’ve had has caught this at one point or another. I’m not sure why they’re so susceptible to it, but allegedly the perfect combo of airflow, temperature, water, and fertilizer will reduce risk. (I have yet to find that magic ratio.)

I would recommend a Neem Oil spray to treat. Make sure to spray tops and bottoms of leaves, even the ones that don’t look infected, as this should help prevent the spread in addition to killing off the fungus on the infected leaves.

Some people recommend pruning any parts of the plant where the mildew is visible, but for such a little baby plant, I personally would not remove anything that’s still alive. Powdery mildew is a surface disease, so it’s not spreading through the plant, it’s spreading on the plant’s surfaces. And with a smaller plant, it’s easy to ensure thorough application of the Neem Oil.
