Saved this Christmas cactus (I think?) from my mom (she’s not the best with plants) 😅  
Any advice is appreciated. I’m not normally a cactus/succulent person, but I would love to see it bloom.

First, what kind of pot is it in? Christmas cactuses, like any cactus, need a pot with drainage holes. I keep mine indoors, about 1-2ft from a window, depending on how cold the space is.

These guys are very hardy, like all cactus/succulent plants. I judge whether mine needs water based on a few factors; first, is the soil damp/wet? If yes, it’s just been watered and is taking it’s time on soaking the water up. Don’t water. If no? Is the plant drooping? If yes, time for some water, if not, it’s still fine. Lastly, are the leaves plump? If yes, it’s got stored water it can use. Not bad to water it at this point, but it’s not super thirsty yet. If the leaves feel thin, give it a good rainstorm to refill those leaves! This works for most succulents and cacti. They are very good at communicating when they need water, but also very hard to kill. As long as you don’t OVERWATER you’ll be set! They mostly bloom around winter time, but if you’re conditions are good, they can bloom year around!

My mom under waters all of her plants so first thing I did was give it a good watering. The leaves are sad looking, droopy and very flimsy. I put it under a grow light to help bring it back to life. It’s in a plastic pit with drainage but it’s one with a attached plate to help catch the extra water (picture of an example)

If my Christmas cactus is healthy, how do I get it to bloom more often? It has only bloomed the first year I got it.

from experiences with Christmas cactuses they don’t like to be water that often. so when you water make sure the soil is bone dry
