Hi, I’m new at caring for indoor tropical plants. The plants I currently have require bright, indirect sunlight. I’ve placed the plants near windows. During the winter months we do not get a ton of sunlight. I’m wondering if using a plant light would be beneficial or if natural sunlight is enough for my plants.

Hi! 👋
I highly recommend using an indoor grow light, my plants love it and definitely notice a positive difference for them. I got mine off of Amazon, I would also recommend getting a full spectrum one. Hope this helps!

If your plants are directly in front of the window and there is nothing shielding from the direct sun through the glass you should probably reconsider where they are. Sun through glass can be more intense and cause burn. Either have a blind or curtain that filters the light or move the plant near the window but not directly in front of it. Even screens will do for filtration.

And yes, plant lights are real benefit.

Newbie at tropical plant care as well! I’m in U.S. zone 7, and we’ve had a very dark and cold winter. My Fiddle Leaf was just not having it, so I finally brought a set of two lights. It hasn’t even been a week and I’m seeing remarkable changes in that tree, my Bird of Paradise, and my Hoyas. Just do it 🙂.

Grow lights are your friend! I have many. But realize that the inexpensive grow light are of little benefit. I have found a couple that I’ve gotten at very good promo prices but name brands are usually better. I did just order a couple vertical lights that seemed almost the equivalent of Barrina’s. They come today, but they were not really cheap. Anyway Barrina and Sansi seem to be most reliable. Do not get those awful pink, purple, or whatever grow lights. No benefit. Get full spectrum only. If you look closely you will see my grow lights. The bulb clip ones and tripod are Sansi. The verticals are Barrina’s. I have more Barrinas elsewhere.
