# Our poor rubber plant is continuing to decline and I don't know what…

_Publicado por Reigan el 2025-08-01_

Our poor rubber plant is continuing to decline and I don't know what to do! She was over watered a few months back, but we repotted her and have been making sure she gets plenty of light and dries out between watering, but the leaves continue to brown and shrivel. Is the stem supposed to turn brown like this? Should I consider just cutting the healthy part off the top and trying to propogate it?

It looks super dehydrated, as the leaves are curling even on the non-brown parts :/ I have mine in a tropical soil mix (equal parts soil, bark, perlite, and charcoal) and it gets a bright mix of direct and indirect light about a foot from my window, so in summer months when it dries out quicker I water on average every 10-14 days (depending on moisture retention). The stem or trunk of it does turn a brown color, I think that’s natural. These plants do love a good pruning, although I’m not sure how quickly it’ll grow back if it’s not feeling too hot. But as a last effort, I don’t see the harm in trying. Eventually all the brown leaves will come off and you don’t want a bare stem anyways, so chopping it back may be beneficial. Hope this was helpful info, and good luck!

Under watered probably or maybe root rot?
