# Hello! I bought this plant with a slight lean but now the lean seems…

_Gepostet von Zack am 2025-03-25_

Hello! I bought this plant with a slight lean but now the lean seems to be getting even worse. It looks close up like it’s pulling out of the pot. Any suggestions on how to correct this? I tried to have it face sunlight in the opposite direction to try and straighten it out but that hasn’t worked.

I used to use skewers to help support the leaning side though I’m sure you could always get a moss pole!🤷‍♀️

Have you watered it at all? Or know when it was watered last? Alocasia can lean/droop for several reasons, most common I'd say are lack of hydration or the leaf slowly giving up the ghost. If it's not watered, that soil ideally needs to be replaced. It's hydrophobic (pulling away from the sides, which lessens the amount of water the plant actually gets.) If you don't want to repot so quickly, I suggest bottom watering it in a bowl with water half up the pot for 30 mins. Then pull it out and let it drain all the way before putting back in the cache pot or tray. This should make it so next watering actually soaks in too.

Thanks tor the help… I checked the roots on the bottom still have some moisture but they’re actually coming out of the drain holes so maybe it needs repotted? and yes I’ve water it but when I water it from the top, it seems like it stays on the top layer of soil and doesn’t really soak that well.

May need to change out the soil then!

I think its definitely hydrophobic than. And the plants not getting enough water, so it's cells aren't turgid enough to stay upright. It looks like a high peat moss mix. Which is prone to this. It can also keep a plant to wet if , like my place, it's high humidity.

If i get plants in this is almost always immediately repot, to avoid hydrophobic or root rot. It does do well in low humidity though bottom watering keeps it hydrated better

Is there a certain soil you recommend? Thanks again.

I think you will have the best luck with Mollys Aroid mix. It will have the elements that plant needs. It looks like an Alocasia Cupera, is that right?
You may want to get one of these for drawing the leaves together, they will offer each other support.

Ok, still the same family. You need a very well draining soil. I was going to post a link to get you 10% off, but the site won’t let me. 🤷‍♀️

This soil is a game changer, I don’t doubt you will be pleased. And it’s not expensive.
