# Hi! I just bought this peace lily from Menard’s yesterday on sale, I…

Hi! I just bought this peace lily from Menard’s yesterday on sale, I had a peace lily for a few years that I got during covid, so I have experience with them, but I’ve never had one this large. Just wondering if I should be concerned about anything, specifically with the flowers. There’s also definitely some bugs, I think a centipede or something similar, how could I remove that because I’m really not wanting any in my room. Another thing I saw are these chunks of something almost fruit like, what is that and should I remove them?

You should get some neem oil for the bugs

So the centipede is there for any bugs that may be in the soil it is a predator. It will leave once any bugs are gone. Neeme oil can be dangerous. Do your research on it peace lilies are amazing. They can grow strictly in water for a very, very long time. You can keep them in a pot. You can keep them in a fish tank. They will start to droop when they need water, but other than that, they’re super easy.

The critter is a flat-backed millipede. It's interested in eating decaying plant material, and it likes the moist environment. The best way to remove those is to physically remove any adults you see, repot the plant with fresh soil (helps remove any eggs or millipedes hiding in the pot), and try to keep the area more dry (avoid overwatering, add a fan to improve air flow, make sure things dry out better between watering sessions.) You can also reduce hiding spaces (use a riser or pot feet so under-the-pot is less appealing, remove any dead leaves from the pot)
