I personally love fluval/ perlite even for propagating. My alocasias love it and every single one is thriving in it. I can definitely recommend it, just keep in mind that it is not a long term substrate as it breaks down and gets muddy over time. I've had some of my alocasias in fluval/perlite for about 10+ months and it's starting to break down, at which point I'm just going to repot into either fresh fluval mix or pon. .

Ohh I didn’t know it gets muddy that’s good to look out for. Do you put them in specific pots? I only have clear nursery pots

All mine are in selfwatering pots with a wick. I've used clear pots in the past or when I run out of selfwatering pots. You can just feed some selfwatering wick cord, or any 100% Cotton t-shirt cut into straps, feed it thru the clear nursery pot. Set the nursery pot into a larger vessel, anything non draining will work, just keep the water level approx. 1/2" - 1" or more below the nursery pot. This will work just fine, I would however lift your nursery pot to fill reservoir rather than top watering as this will speed up the breakdown of the fluval. I personally just top water mine once or twice a month to flush out any accumulated salt build up. The attached picture is not mine,I just got it of Google as an example. .

I actually love this jar idea I wouldn’t have guessed on this but now I HAVE to do it

It’s the cutest idea I’ve seen I don’t like the individual clear cup ones and it’s so astheticly pleasing and easy I just spray it every now and then when I notice there’s almost no water at the bottom lol
