# Do ya’ll fertilize via bottom watering as well? I bottom water most…

Do ya’ll fertilize via bottom watering as well? I bottom water most of my plants to avoid fungus gnats. But when fertilizing, I mix a powder fertilizer with water. I pour this water in the dish for bottom watering, but much of the fertilizer sinks to the bottom. I feel like I should pour it directly into the soil, but I don’t want fungus gnats! But I also fear that the plants aren’t really absorbing the fertilizer since much of it settles. Thoughts?

I sprinkle a slow-release fertilizer on the soil and bottom water; during the winter I top water…this also helps “flush” mineral buildup that may occur in the soil.

I use a liquid fertilizer…if your fertilizer isn’t dissolving in water I wonder if it’s the best option?

that was going to be my suggestion as well.

I bottom water almost exclusively; I use liquid fertilizer mixed into the water. I do make sure to top water each plant twice a year (June \& December) to flush the soil of any mineral buildup.

My room was filled with loads of fugus gnats, I have the yellow and blue sticky things in my pots, all buried in them, as soon as I started using these mosquito bits there were all gone in 1-1/2 weeks, I put 2tbsp of the bits in with around 1 liter of water and let soak for atlest half a hour with a stir at start and end, I use a tiny sieve to remove the bits from the water. Which then I ever use to water the plants or I add the fertilizer/ feed into it, then water, best thing that has ever worked for me, used to use the fungus gnat toppers or grit / sand

Got mine from Amazon but think you can purchase from various places. I top water all my plants only exception would be one that is solid of roots and soil, so it needs a good soaking, I used to bottom water my orchid . The mosquito bits kill’s eggs , lavie and the gnats as it have a biocide but doesn’t effect the plants
