# My ZZ plant got root rot but I think I can save it. Can anyone give…

_Geplaatst door Amy op 2024-05-09_

My ZZ plant got root rot but I think I can save it. Can anyone give me advice? I cut the rot off with clean shears. Now what? Let it callus, I think? Do I use growth hormone? Or alcohol concoction? I’m so sorry, little guy. Any help is appreciated!

This is actually a snake plant! Definitely let it callous for a day at least. You can do multiple things to get the roots to grow again, such as a rooting hormone and then planting it right back into soil or simply placing it in water!

I don’t have much experience with propagating snake plants so if anyone else has had some successful propagations with them I’d love to hear what they have to say!

Oops. I named it ZZ Top. Lol.
It was doing so well for so long until I replanted in not the right soil. I have coco coir and peat and perlite mix I was going to use instead. Don’t think that would work well? Thanks for the info. Fingers crossed.

Yeah those would work well! Planta always tells you the best soil to use for your plant! This is their recommendations for yours!

You’ve got this! I think a good place to start is rooting hormone coating the bottom and then just placing it right into the soil! I’m not sure how long it will take to root but I think they can be a bit slow.

I was also going to suggest letting it root in water but if you’re wanting to put it back in soil I think you’re on the right track with a well draining mix and I never follow plantas watering schedule for my snake plant I usually wait a few days longer (my plant is right next to a vent though).

Yes their watering recommendations aren’t always accurate! They can be pretty close depending on how accurate your plants information is but there’s still environmental factors that can throw it off. Their watering notifications are a good reminder, but always check for yourself and snooze the notification as needed!

So, let it callus and then dip in hormone?

Clean the shears with rubbing alcohol
