Water by your own terms and use Planta as a reminder to check your soil

oh my gosh thank you. i also read that i shouldn’t be watering on the leaves (which is what i have been doing 🫣) so i’ll stop
doing that and start using it as a reminder. thanks again 🙏

Omg you’re not supposed to water on the leaves?? 😳

Welcome

You might wanna try to separate the plants and repot them into separate pots. From the looks of it you have a jade, gollum jade, and an echeveria in your mix. Succulents do well with being bottom watered, and make sure each pot has drainage holes! That is important for any plant. Remove any dead/brown/shriveled leaves and check the roots for root rot if you do plan to repot them. (Rotted roots look dark and are mushy, whereas healthy ones are light and firm). If there is root rot, feel free to let me know and I’ll walk you through how to treat it. I really recommend separating the plants, as it’ll help you treat the problems individually, give each plant more space to grow, and will prevent the plants from fighting for space or resources from water and nutrients from the soil. Hope this helps!

And as a tip, to prevent overwatering, yes, I complexly agree with all the previous comments saying to use Planta as a suggestion, not exactly when to water it. Try using it to CHECK to see if the plant’s soil is completely dry. Succulents need their soil to dry out completely before watering again. You can check by sticking a bamboo skewer or toothpick into the soil and pulling it out (like checking if a cake or brownie is done in the oven), and if the soil is completely dry at the bottom, it’s time to water. If Planta seems to be a little early for you plant, you can go into the plant’s individual settings and change it to a “custom schedule” and give the number of days it takes your plant specifically to dry out between waterings

i’ll use that skewer idea thanis

Does your little pit have drainage? And like others have said, planta is a guide, not an absolute. Let the succulent soil get completely dry before watering again. Bottom watering works best for these guys.

it does

Planta is a guide, and not always correct, but remember it is making a recommendation for one echeveria, not a pot of mixed succulents. Water when the lower leaf one at least one plant is getting less firm. But this doesn’t really look overwatered. It might just be struggling for nutrients and water because it is crammed in a small pot with other succulents. These arrangements are cute for a little while, but are unfortunately not a long term set up.

If you want to keep the arrangement, you could take out the ones that are struggling and leave the two kinds of Jade that look happy.

If it was mine, I would start by un potting them to see if the dirt is dry or not which will help you rule out over watering. Overwatering is when the dirt stays wet too long, and watering too often, not too much given at once. Does your pot have a drainage hole?

The two Jade have similar care needs and would probably do fine together in there for a while. They are slow growers so the roots shouldn’t outgrow the pot soon. If their roots together can reach the bottom and sides of the pot then they should do fine.😊

Also, please realize that full sun in a window isn’t the same as full sun outside. The Jade really like a lot of light, but can tolerate the lower window light better, in my experience, than echeveria can. If you can’t put it outside, consider getting a 6500K full spectrum grow light. Bare minimum, make sure you are turning the pot every few days so all plants are getting the most light they csn. Is it possible the part loosing leaves was the furthest away from the window?

One last thing, have you fertilized it? That might help as well. For indoor succulents that don’t often get watered (vs. outdoor that need water every 1-3 days in Texas), I personally use the miracle grow one on the right. I use the other one when I’m growing larger succulents outside that get watered more often so they can take advantage of it more.

You got this!❤️

Completely agree with @SucculentMama here. Do you happen to know what window you currently have it in? You can look up what north and south windows mean if you don’t. I keep any succulents I have in the south windowsill, the windows with the most sunlight in the daytime, and avoid putting them in north windows, the ones with the least sunlight. East or west windows are the windows between the north and south windows, which give even amounts of sunlight, but are better for other plants. If you don’t have it in your brightest windowsill, and you want to keep it indoors, move it to the brightest window you’ve got. Hope this helps!
