Finally tried PlantyAnn’s skewer trick. My question is, do you rinse and reuse the skewers? I’m assuming yes but I wasn’t sure if getting them wet would mess with the whole system lol.

What is the skewer trick?

#### Anna replied on 2024-02-14

You put a skewer in each of your plants and leave them for a few minutes. Then you take them out. If the skewer is dry it means you need to water the plant, if it’s got some moist dirt on it you wait to water.

I like that! A local plant expert/influencer where I live uses a knitting needle. If you insert the medal needle in the soil, wet soil will stick to it and dry soil will not. Sort of like putting a knife in a cake to see if it’s done baking.

Exactly! I love the knitting needle idea, combining two passions!

Now that you’ve seen the post…🤣 do you rinse and reuse your skewers?

I just told my gf we need skewers to test all my plants moisture and she seemed confused and I told her “PlantyAnn swears by this”… I got an even more confused look back 😂

I use the wooden chopsticks from places like Fred Meyer, or Kroger‘s, commonly found in the eastern US, I think. (I’m from Portland, OR.) If you ask, they will usually give you some for free, and they work great! I assume any place that sells Chinese food would have these wooden chopsticks; shop around, and maybe you’ll find a free bargain! 🤗💚🪴
