Need Advice on Nerve Plant

Hi everyone!

I got this Red Anne Fittonia Nerve Plant probably 5ish months ago. It was growing quickly with big leaves. However the leaves keep getting crispy and wrinkly no matter what I try. I have moved it away from vents, put a humidifier next to it, its own grow light, repotted it, then last week I finally changed the soil mix to a chunkier soil that would dry out faster because the last mix stayed wet far too long which I thought must’ve been suffocating the roots and preventing leaves from getting water. Even with dryer soil mix and more humidity leaves continue to get crispier. I’m not sure if my new mix is still not drying fast enough or if it needs more time for plant to adjust from shock of new soil. How can I finally resolve this issue and help this plant have softer vibrant leaves?

Thank you!

What humidity does the humidifier keep the air at? I’m pretty sure these things like 60%+. Also it’s in the name, a fittonia is gonna throw a fit-on-ya

I don’t have a way to measure the humidity. I try to keep the humidifier running as much as possible but I was worried too much humidity would prevent the soil from drying and worsen the issue. I’ll try to max out the humidity and see if that helps over a week or so. Thank you!

Almost guarantee it’s the humidity. These finicky things are the most dramatic if they’re not spritzed about 2-3x a day.

Okay gotcha. I haven’t been spritzing it for a while since I have the pebble tray and humidifier but start doing that more to see if it helps. Thank you!

My humidifiers automatically measure the humidity and turn off at 65% then reactivate at 55%. I have 2 large ones running all day in the plant area in my apartment so that the humidity never drops, and these ones happen to text me when the water empties. They were 20$ each and came in perfect condition sold as “used”

Do you spritz with tap water or distilled? Thanks!

Did you research the plant? Like the soil it needs and stuff? That may help.

These plants are super finicky. I’ve had mine for a couple years now. Bought her as a starter plant and she’s grown significantly. But I’ve almost lost her a few times. I keep her by a bright window with no direct sunlight. Mist/Water/Fertilize according to Planta schedule. I have her in a chunky soil mix. I noticed when I did have her in direct sunlight, under a grow light, or forget to water she either gets crispy or droopy. They will def let you know when they are unhappy.
