# Hi I am new here as I have decided it’s time to really pay attention…

_Publié par Zoe le 2025-03-10_

Hi I am new here as I have decided it’s time to really pay attention to my plants! (ie stop taking them to near death and having to propagate just to then repeat the cycle)

Just a quick question regarding the planta app… most of my plants are in a room with a south-facing window, and I am wondering which option I should be selecting when creating the ‘site’. Should I be putting full direct 8 hour sun or partial sun?

I have my south window set to part sun, part shade.... but it's because otherwise half the plants say it's too bright 😆.

Honestly I do this too bc the app yells at me 🤣

It will really depend on how far away from the window they are. Light is preferably measured in lux/lumen/foot candle, which is basically the intensity of the light. There are some apps that will let you measure the levels in the area of your plants. I’ll put a chart than can help a bit

I can’t paste the article but houseplantjournal .com has a very informative article about light! I’d recommend that one, it’s not too sciency, very readable.

That’s really helpful thanks! I have actually got a light meter which I purchased when getting into terrarium building (I seem to have much better luck with terrariums haha). I will use this to get the best light set up!
