Hi all! I am starting to get a bit of a white build up from watering my plants with tap water. Does anyone know if using brita filtered water would resolve this or if I have to get distilled water from the store? I just have a bunch of plants and would like to avoid buying a bunch of gallons of distilled water in possible. Thank you!

You can buy South Side Houseplant’s water conditioner or API TAP WATER CONDITIONER (both from Amazon).
Used to treat water for aquarians, removing the chlorine and other chemicals found in tap water that are also not good for fish \& aquatic plants.
A few drops to a gallon of tap water. Lasts a long time. I use it for all my plants. I only use distilled water for my Venus flytrap.

I use API (just avoid the ones with additives. You just want the Water Conditioner) on a large portion of my plants. Read the directions as it takes longer and different quantities for it to remove certain minerals. I have a 5 gal water jug, with a bear dispenser. I fill it up on an evening... That way it sits long enough to remove everything.

This is a great tip, thank you!

It’s hard to be sure without knowing exactly what it is in your water, but…probably. In the meantime, you can flush your plants: just water them several times, letting the water drain completely each time. This flushes the minerals and salts out.

The Brita filter will usually help some. It may even stop it, it'd just depend on how minerally your water is, and if your filter removes enough.

Zero water filter is the best in my opinion. Better than a Brita filter by far.

Filters do help but another idea if it's possible in your area, collect rain water. It's how I water my plants.
