\*\*soil and repotting question\*\*

I repotted most of my plants already this year, but the soil I’ve used is mostly hydrophobic and compacted. I use terra cotta pots pretty much exclusively, so I’d like the plants to be able to easily absorb more water.

Should I give them a new, chunkier soil mix, even though they’ve all been repotted this season? Or wait it out and hope for the best?

Thanks for any advice or insight you can provide!

Morgan

Honestly it depends on the individual plants. Chunkier soil for succulents or orchids but water retaining soil for ferns and all purpose for things like pathos or spaths.

You can soak the soil so it starts retaining water again. Just make sure you let it drain completely after. Then the soil should behave more normally going forward. Try it with one or 2 plants first to see how it works for you.
