# Plant advice/care My polka dot plant has always grown just straight…

Plant advice/care
My polka dot plant has always grown just straight up with tiny leaves, we finally saw a big improvement with new bigger leaves coming up but my question is, is it stealing nutrients from the smaller leaves because they are all starting to turn yellow and fall off, is that a issue or should I let it happen so the new leaves can thrive?

They are turning yellow probably for lack of humidity. This plant is high maintenance. Comes in a pink version also, which I’m trying again for the second time. This time in a partially enclosed clear glass planter. They require high humidity-above 50%. They also require regular pruning, otherwise they get very leggy. Watering also should be consistent and not drying out. They will live under less than ideal conditions but won’t thrive and never look like the beautiful nursery plant you bought. Pic is my second attempt plant but have only had a couple weeks. I would suggest check out YouTube to get better idea of how to prune your plant. Your plant actually looks pretty good compared to many I have seen. Just need to get to bush out. Maybe with some stem props planted back into the soil.

I second everything Phil said as I’ve had good luck propagating mine and keeping it bushy by regularly pinching back and removing flower buds.
