Hi Everyone! I’m just getting started in potted plants/indoor plants. I have south facing windows and I’m trying to find small plants that will thrive in the direct sunlight. I know succulents are the go to but what recommendations does everyone have? Thanks in advance!

I have two different jade plants thriving in a southern window. They grow very slowly and have shallow roots only need repotting once every 2 years or so. They need to thoroughly dry out between waterings.

I have mostly south facing windows, and I’ve found that most of my plants do well! Tropicals, succulents, mostly anything

I have an Aloe, it is easy to handle and loves the sun!

Pothos are great varieties. If you want big leaves put them on moss poles or they can be in planters or hanging baskets.

I have some small-leaved hoya that love my south-facing window, khroniana and lacunosa varieties. They are already pretty petite but they also don't mind being trimmed so they could be a good choice!

If you'd like to try orchids, neofinetia/vanda falcata\* is smoll and likes plenty of light. (\*it recently got a rename so you might see either one. The common name is wind orchid.) Cattleyas and vandas also like more light than most orchids, but I've found cattleyas to be finicky about their roots, and even mini vandas are pretty big

If it is direct sun, probably only morning sun, then use succulents. If you want tropicals, bring them into the room farther. I am extremely biased towards succulents. They are so much more interesting, some look alien.

Can’t go wrong with a monstera! They love the sun ☀️
