# Good morning! I have bought a small snake plant as I have read how…

Good morning! I have bought a small snake plant as I have read how they are great for indoors and can handle low-lighting conditions. Now that I am entering it into planta it says it needs part sun… internet is providing mixed information too! I have it placed on a shelf in my livingroom that has north-facing windows and does not get any direct sunlight. Anyone familiar with these lovelies think it’s ok or should I get a grow light?

honestly i think where she is now is perfect because that is like part sun, there’s sun to light her up but still some shade to keep her cool i think the grow lights might be too bright for this lil guy

Snake plants can tolerate basically as much or as little light as you can give them, but they will grow best/fastest in brighter light. How far is it from that window nearby? If it’s more than 2’ or so it’s probably technically in “low light” right now depending on the size of the window. Where it’s now is very cute and it’ll do fine, it just won’t grow as quickly as it might in another location :)

Thank you for your advice. It is about 5 feet from the window, so I guess I’ll keep an eye on my little guy and see how he does:)

I was told they can’t tolerate low light for a long time and that to get them to grow they need to be able to see the sky. Not necessarily sun but sky. I just moved mine into a window that gets sky and she has grown 3 inches. But for not I think she’s good, if she doesn’t seem to be growing and is looking the same try moving her to a spot that gets more sky and then rotate back.
